In 2021, Kurt ‘72 and Debra Wilson established the Wilson Family Endowment for the Arts. The purpose of the endowment was to elevate the arts and creative expression to engage students and staff, and inspire others to support the Lafayette Catholic School System. Grants from the endowment are designed to honor a distinguished teacher in the Lafayette Catholic School System who exemplifies excellence in the performing, fine and applied arts. In addition to the teaching award, the fund provides unrestricted grants to encourage teachers and students to explore new ideas in the arts and inspire growth across curriculum and schools.
During the Spring semester of 2024, Central Catholic entrepreneurship class students pitched an idea to launch Knights Media Network (KMN). The goals of KMN were to use video to share upcoming school events, provide an outlet for students to broaden their knowledge and creativity while telling stories in the school that are often neglected, and to help build school spirit in the school community. What started as a student-driven concept has now created a new class and television studio at Central Catholic, thanks to the grant from the Wilson Family Endowment and generosity of two families. Just over $20,000 was invested to design a new state-of-the-art video studio that is being utilized daily by students and staff.
